Cameron Diaz
Cameron Diaz seems to have a knack for playing roles of chicks that would talk to guys who write for topfivemovies.com. Seriously, if I was in a bar and I saw Cameron Diaz, I would probably go up to her and say, "Hello, how are you, can I buy you a drink?" Then I'm sure her bodyguard would throw me outside or her middle-aged pony-tailed fruit producer boyfriend would mace me, but I'd still talk to her. She seems cool, I don't think I'd be embarasssed to fart in front of her.
Cameron Diaz is a good actress too. Everyone knows her from There's Something About Mary ( 1998 ) or by playing the voice of the princess in Shrek ( 2000 ). Diaz has made better films however. She played a showgirl in The Mask ( 1994 ), an abused girlfriend in Feeling Minnesota ( 1996 )and she was caught in a love triangle in She's the One ( 1996 ). By the way, She's the One was an excellent soundtrack, too bad Tom Petty is dead.
The thing that appeals to the common man about Cameron Diaz is that she's not the sterotypical Hollywood blonde. She's doesn't have the dumb blonde label that Marilyn Monroe had or being helpless like Mimi Van Dorn was. Diaz lost that image whenever she began kicking ass in Charlie's Angels ( 2000 ). Do you really think Myrna Loy would have shot Alexander Sess in Buckets of Blood ( 1948 ) ? Jesse might think so.
So where is Diaz's place in the world of film? I don't see her replaying the role Ingrid Bergman played in Casablanca, unless Sam tells Bogey that if he doesn't clean his pipes before seeing her that he's walking around with a loaded gun. I see Diaz continuing to make the romantic comedy that American women drag their boyfriends to. While women weep as Richard Gere is in a hospital bed about ready to go through a dangerous, yet life saving, rectal gerbil removal operation, Cameron Diaz can play his devoted girlfriend. Everyone would be happy then.
Diaz, on a serious note, should also stick with doing to occasional independent film. She is a great actress who can stretch herself and play some very dramatic characters, Being John Malkovich ( 1999 ) is an excellent example, where she played a veterinarian turned lesbian. In conclusion, Diaz, a great actress who plays roles that guys and chicks can get into.
