Top 5 Historically Accurate Movies of All Time
Being a historian I take the accuracy of historical films seriously. To this day I can hardly watch Braveheart without shouting at the screen "The Scotts didn't wear blue war paint!" and then be asked to leave the electronics section of Wal*Mart. As far as my top fives go, you may notice Saving Private Ryan is missing. Saving Private Ryan is the greatest war film and accurately depicts the storming of Normandy but the rest of the film was a fictitious story. So without further delay, my top five picks.
- Michael Collins
(1996)
- Thirteen Days
(2000)
- Gettysburg
(1994)
- Gandhi
(1982)
- Schindler's List
(1993)

How could you include "Thirteen Days" with all its "creative liberties", but leave off "Tora! Tora! Tora!", which was created with the cooperation of American and Japanese historians, and is dead accurate in practically every word of dialogue? It seems Mr. Bruce has not done his homework...
