The Mothman Prophecies (2002)
If this movie wasn't based on actual events that happened in West Virginia it would totally suck. However, because some of things sort of happened, it only sucks.
Richard Gere plays John Kline, a writer for the Washington Post. He and his wife get into a car accident where she "sees" something, then later dies. Gere is broken up about the whole thing, but life goes on. A year or so later Gere is sent to interview the Governor of Virginia. He leaves his house in Maryland and ends up in Bumfuck, West Virgina, totally confused on how he got there. Horrific oddities ensue.
I actually identified with Gere in this film. I myself have gotten in my car, ended up in West Virgina, and not known how. Oddly enough I was in college all of those times, drunk and ended up at a strip club. No real horrific oddities except the next morning I would always find a receipt in my pocket for a massage and two hundred dollar tip.
The rest of the movie went downhill. Will Patton played a hillbilly and tried to shoot Gere and Laura Linney played a cop who hooks up with Gere at the end. This leads beautifuly into the sequel where Linney uncovers shocking secerts about Gere's past in "The Gerbil Man Prophecies".
As far as the DVD goes, nothing great. Some behind the scenes stuff on how they destroyed a bridge and a little about the true events. Everyone has probably seen both on A&E a month before the movie came out. If you've seen everything else, rent this, but Mothman isn't that great.

Actually, I really liked this film. I thought it was pretty solid, and very creepy. And with scenes filmed in and around Pittsburgh, it gets bonus points. Not that that helped "Sudden Death", though...
