Joe Dirt (2001)

David Spade, Dennis Miller and Brittany Daniel
Rating: 2.0 / 10.0

I bought this DVD for my mother for Christmas. She nearly disowned me. Joe Dirt is one of the worst films I have ever seen. This is "Hulk Hogan" bad. Joe Dirt is how the United States would have been if the South had won the Civil War: Guys in mullets driving crappy cars and listening to Molly Hatchet.

David Spade plays Joe Dirt, a luckless and witless janitor in search of his parents whom he lost at the Grand Canyon when he was 8. Dirt gets in misadventures throughout the rural South trying to find his parents, hilarity supposedly ensues, but never does. Instead of something funny, the story jumps around; Dirt finds an asteroid which turns out to be a frozen lump of shit, Dirt meets up with a Native American fireworks salesmen, Dirt has sex with someone whom he believes is his sister. There's also a scene that deals with Buffalo Bob from Silence of the Lambs, which only fizzles and never comes though as being funny.

The cast was an all-star lineup that would have been great in any other film together. Christopher Walken, who is creepy, yet did a good job playing a janitor, Brittany Daniel, who is hot and did an excellent job of playing a hot chick and even Kid Rock, who is white trash, did an amazing job playing a dude who is white trash. If Spade would have played his old, sarcastic character, instead of someone named Joe Dirt, the name says it all, the film would have been great.

The special features on the DVD include a direct link to the website (http://www.this_movie_sucks_my_white_ass.com) and outtakes and bloopers, which aren't that different from the actual film.

This is by far, one of the worst films I have seen on DVD. The only hope is that Spade becomes heavily involved in the art of voodoo and resurrects the spirt of Chris Farley to make more movies with him.
